Synopsis

The “Sun-Earth Bound” project is a series of exhibitions by artist Pepa Ivanova, exploring the intricate relationship between the Sun and Earth through art and science. At its core is “WARMTH,” an interactive installation that immerses viewers in the dynamic interior of the Sun. The artwork interprets scientific data to create a sensory experience using light, sound, and heat, showcasing the Sun’s fundamental role in powering life and influencing planetary ecosystems. This project emphasizes the Sun not merely as an energy source but a living cosmic entity, highlighting the fragile, yet vital, dependencies between solar and terrestrial life.

The exhibition further delves into capturing and visualizing solar phenomena through “GRISP – Grasping the Invisible Sun Data.” This collection of speculative drawings transforms abstract scientific data into artistic renderings, creating a dialogue between art and astrophysics. By overlaying scientific interpretations onto artistic visuals, it redefines the process of scientific inquiry as an artistic endeavor, reflecting the role of light as a crucial abiotic factor in planetary symbiosis.

“Picturing Earth’s Light” (PEL) complements the project by focusing on the diverse factors that influence Earth’s illumination. Using data from space and terrestrial observations, this digital installation maps light to illustrate the evolutionary impact of human presence on Earth’s ecosystems. By integrating scientific understanding with artistic representation, Ivanova’s work invites audiences to reconsider their perceptions and the intrinsic connections between art, science, and the environment, ultimately celebrating the omnipresent and life-sustaining power of light.
